Adler Clashes at Lucas Off-Road Season Opening Scorcher

Compton, California (April 19, 2017) - Greg Adler and Team 4 Wheel Parts began their assault on the 2017 short course off-road racing season in the Valley of the Sun this past weekend. With unseasonably hot temperatures, even by Phoenix area standards, reaching triple digits at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park, the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series had a scorching kickoff to the season.

Cleary chomping at the bit to launch into Saturday’s opening round, the elite drivers in the series’ marquee Pro4 division took little time to demonstrate their desire to put on a spectacular show for the fans in attendance. Doing his best to stay out of the melee, Adler worked his way through the field while the first three laps of the race were littered with caution flags and extreme contact from the onset.

“After a few days here at the track setting up, testing and then qualifying for the race, these guys were ready to go today,” said Adler. “It took us the first three laps just to get a clean start, but when we did, it developed into a great race. There was plenty of beating and banging but that’s what Pro4 racing is. This is not a sport for the timid.”

While the majority of the field opted for aggression as an alternative to any sort of cautious pace, Adler continued his pursuit of the leaders as he battled towards podium contention.

With ten laps to go in the 18-lap main event, he made his move with a strong pass to bully his way into the third spot. Unfortunately, just as the #10 battled to maintain the spot there was a mechanical failure that abruptly halted his advance and ended his day.

“We were on a good run and had the speed to finish strong today. Things move quickly out there. We raced hard, made some passes and moved through the field to put ourselves in a great spot. Then in a moment, the truck has an issue and your race is done.”

After a late night, Crew Chief, Mike Seat and the 4 Wheel Parts team had the 900-HP Pro4 ready for the second race of the weekend’s doubleheader. A strong qualifying effort placed Adler on the second row and the day started with promise as he immediately launched into the third spot. With a tightly packed field jostling for position, the #10 made contact with another racer damaging a front tire that later would determine his fate for the race. Dicing through the midway point of the race Adler anchored himself into the third positon. Facing the difficult choice of a tire change or staying on the course and risking potentially catastrophic damage to his truck, he elected to pull off the track and into the pits.

Quickly returning to the action but now a lap down to the leaders, the gap was insurmountable. While he finished the event, the result was not indicative of the on-track effort and pace he revealed throughout the day.

“It’s disappointing,” said Adler. “The guys were up late to give me a great truck and we came out battling for a podium. Today was a much different race. For the most part, everyone kept it clean and there weren’t a lot of opportunities for us to get caught up with the field. What we do know is that this team has a strong chin and can take a punch. We stayed on our feet to make sure we brought it home to the finish today. Now we’re going to be coming out swinging in Ensenada.”

Now the team prepares for Rounds 3&4 at Estero Beach in Ensenada, MX. Future events include Salt Lake City, UT., Wheatland, MO., Reno, NV. and San Bernardino, CA. before their return to Chandler for the season finale.

If you can’t be in the grandstands to see the action live, the Lucas Oil Racing Series is broadcasted on CBS, CBS Sports Network, MavTV and LucasOilRacing.TV.
