Tooele, UT (August 30, 2018) – Alumi Craft Pro Buggy Racers swept the Round 8 podium in the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series (LOORRS) and captured five total out of six podium positions on the weekend. Eliott Watson took the victory on Sunday, while Darren Hardesty Jr. and Pro Buggy point leader extended his reign at the top with a pair of 2nd place finishes. Trey D Gibbs earned himself a Round 7 3rd place finish and added another Top 5 finishing 4th on Sunday. Broc Dickerson nailed down 3rd for an Alumi Craft Podium Sweep in Round 8.
Racing on a warm summer night at Utah Motorsports Campus attracted short course off road fans like fire flies to a candle. A large crowd showed up early and stayed around late for great racing excitement. The Pro Buggy class has been a real highlight with straight up wheel-to-wheel action. Going into the weekend, there was a close battle with Darren Hardesty Jr. in the #99 Alumi Craft just four points ahead of second place challenger Trevor Briska. Hardesty stretched out his points lead and now has 13 points separation over the #3 Alumi Craft of Eliott Watson for second in the 2018 championship after he took the victory in Round 8.
Eliott stated this after the races we're over, "After some rough racing Friday night, we got the car all put back together and our team was able to make a comeback and grab the Pro Buggy Win! The Alumi Craft Race Car was on rails and looked great while doing it. It was a blast, and I am looking forward to Glen Helen!" Watson was quick all weekend, qualifying 4th on Saturday and was 2nd fastest on Sunday.
Darren "HotSauce" Hardesty Jr. was burning for a race win since his weekend sweep in June at Lucas Oil Speedway Round 4 & 5 in Wheatland, Missouri. He missed out on the podium in Round 6, but now has pulled it all back together with a pair of 2nd place finishes for Rounds 7 & 8. "Great weekend of racing," Darren commented. "Our Alumi Craft was setup great, great for the conditions in Utah. I qualified 2nd fastest with a zero inversion. We finished 2nd on the box. The second day, we qualified 4th fastest and LOORRS inverted zero again. I started the race and maintained 3rd until I was able to slip by fellow Alumi Craft teammate Trey D Gibbs and stay in 2nd the rest of the way. It was a good points weekend for our team and we're coming back swinging at the next one."
Broc Dickerson should get the hard charger award for the weekend. The #23 Alumi Craft was super quick early on and Qualified 1st in Round 7. The race did not go so swell only making 2 laps. Dickerson made a great turn around in Round 8. Starting in 10th, Broc raced his way up to finish in 3rd place. "Well the weekend was rough going at first," admitted Dickerson. "We had our ups and downs and I was finally able to get something going and charged from 10th to 3rd, even after basically losing brakes half way through. You could say the Alumi Craft was unstoppable until we got to the finish line!"
Trey D Gibbs also deserves honorable mention as he demonstrated top tier driving charisma in the #15 Alumi Craft. Gibbs raced to a 3rd place finish in Round 7, went onto qualify 1st for the next event, and earned a Top 5 with a 4th place finish to end out Round 8.
Podium finishes, race wins, and championship contention comes at a high cost. To avoid the higher cost of DNFs and equipment failures, champions and winners choose performance and reliability over everything. Like most races in the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series, Alumi Craft is the chosen platform for podium finishers.
