Lucas Oil Speedway Currently Undergoing Rebuild Following Recent Severe Weather
CORONA, Calif. (June 06, 2019) – The Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series has announced that it will cancel the scheduled race weekend from Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Missouri, following the damage incurred from the recent extreme weather. The state-of-the-art, multi-purpose facility received excessive damage during a severe storm on May 21, which left many areas of the property in need of extensive repair.
As recovery efforts in Wheatland continue, series organizers have also announced the expansion of the next two scheduled rounds of the championship from Wild West Motorsports Park in Sparks, Nevada, and Glen Helen Raceway in San Bernardino, California. The OPTIMA Batteries Silver State Showdown, presented by GEICO, will now feature back-to-back nights of action on Friday, July 26, and Saturday, July 27, with an under-the-lights showcase mere minutes from “The Biggest Little City in the World” in Reno. Several weeks later, the championship will kick off the month of October with two days of racing for the Rockstar Energy Golden State Off Road Nationals, presented by General Tire, on Saturday, October 5, and Sunday, October 6, in the heart of the off-road racing mecca of Southern California.
Statement from Bill Smith, Race Director, Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series:
“First and foremost, all of our thoughts are with those affected by the storm in Wheatland, and we offer our support as they work to rebuild that incredible facility. Thankfully, no serious injuries were reported and those who were affected are well on their path to recovery. We know Lucas Oil Speedway will be bigger and better when we make our return next summer.
“Our round at the track was slated to be a dual-points event, so we decided the best course of action to fill the void left in Wheatland’s absence was to expand our weekends at Wild West Motorsports Park and Glen Helen Raceway. We know this decision will be well received by the local fans at each respective track, and we know our drivers will be excited at the prospect of providing even more exceptional competition at these doubleheader events.”
