The beginning of a new racing season is always filled with hope. That hope, for most, is soon dashed. For some, though, it brings surprises of success unexpected, if not desired.

There were several surprises in the opening weekend of competition for the 2012 edition of the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series. Some of those were reserved for the competitors, as they discovered a few changes were in store. First was that the Pro trucks would now have a mandatory pit stop instead of the standard competition yellow flag at mid-race. All the trucks would be led into the pits, then they would remain there for two minutes during which the crews could work on the trucks, change a flat (and only flat tires, not just any tire) or remove broken bodywork.

Drivers Put On A Show In Round 2

After a terrific opening day of racing for the 2012 season of the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series, presented by GEICO, the drivers and teams were back to do it all again here in Round 2 at Firebird International Raceway in the Phoenix suburb of Chandler, AZ. With no racing to worry about tomorrow, drivers were throwing caution to the wind, and were driving spectacularly all afternoon. Fans packed the stands to capacity once again, and were kept on their feet in unison throughout the day, as race after race of excitement, surprises, and emotion were laid down one after another. More than once, the crowd was heard cheering as one as a driver pulled off an unbelievable move, and this was an afternoon that many people will look back on as one of the best in recent series memory. 2012 firebird 1 1

The Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series, presented by GEICO, is back in action here in 2012. Picking up right where we left off in 2011, the drivers and teams are back here at Firebird International Raceway in Chandler, AZ, just at the south end of the Phoenix metropolis. As always, throngs of excited fans were here to greet their favorite drivers, and just as predictably, the welcoming rays of the Arizona sun shone brightly over a perfect day at the races. The racers weren't showing any signs of winter cobwebs here today, and put on a great show for the fans, who packed the stands thoroughly.
